SHOWS COMING UP
2012 programme.
A play by John Barlow from the Alfred Hitchcock movie of John Buchan’s famous novel.
A hilarious take on the Alfred Hitchcock classic (with a bit of Monty Python!), The 39 Steps sees our dashing hero, Richard Hannay, stumble into a dangerous tale of cat and mouse from London to Scotland. Accused of murder by Scotland Yard, pursued by enemy agents and carrying a secret that could save King and country, Hannay must solve the mystery of The 39 Steps in order to acquit himself and stop a war. Yet the most trying part of the whole tale is the women he encounters, especially Pamela, his unwilling companion.
The 39 Steps is Broadway’s longest running comedy, and is a winner of 2 Tony Awards.

Richard Brooks: Director Richard has spent most of his life involved with the theatre in one form or the other. He has been involved with Greytown, Carterton and Masterton theatres, acting, directing or backstage. As a teacher he has been heavily involved in student drama. His first acting performance at Harlequin Theatre was in 1994 in “No Sex Please, We’re British” and since that time he has regularly trod the Harlequin stage with his latest effort at Harlequin directing the memorable, ‘Homeland’. Andrew Charnock Andrew has played a number of roles across the theatres in the Wairarapa – Lieutenant Gruber in ‘Alo Alo’, the Ugly Sister in ‘Cinderella ‘x2! Delilah in ‘Stiff’, Paul in ‘Homeland ‘and Harold in ‘Full Monty - the Musical’. He is looking forward to returning to Harlequin and taking up the challenge of playing a great number of characters in one show. The challenge will be getting the right hat, with the right accent in the right place at the right time and trying not to laugh. When asked why he wanted to do this show he said – “I want to lose at least 5 kilo”. |

Danny Clenott Danny immigrated to Masterton from the USA in 1998. Since then he has performed in more than 25 stage musicals and comedies for Harlequin, MATS, Phoenix and Limelight Theatre. He has most notably played a corpse in ‘Stiff’ and has stripped down to his bare essentials in both ‘Ladies' Night’ and ‘The Full Monty’. He views his role in ‘The 39 Steps’ as probably the most challenging he has done, despite remaining fully clothed. |

Stefan van Trigt This is Stefan's third outing at Harlequin (after ‘Alo Alo’ and ‘The Prime of Miss Jean Brody’) and probably the most challenging to date. Stefan has also just featured in Carterton’s ‘Best Little Whorehouse in Texas’ He has enjoyed the pace and direction of this production as well as the chance to work with his talented fellow-actors - keeping a straight face during rehearsals has not been easy! He hopes the audiences attending this production appreciate the un-seen, the technical wizardry, and the actor's ability to carry on during prop failures. |

Elouise Earwaker Elouise moved to Masterton in 1999 and has been involved in a number of productions at MATS, was a memorable Helga in Greytown's "Alo Alo", and was last seen at Harlequin featuring in "Are You Being Served". For this production, she gets to play 3 hugely different characters and is having fun trying not to confuse the accents, the clothes and the body language. When she is not laughing at the humour of "The 39 Steps", she is trying to train her director and fellow actors to laugh at her jokes. Occasionally she succeeds! |
